Ab Initio

The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.  -James A. Michener
Today is March 05, 2010.
I am somewhat at a loss for words right now as I think about how I want to place the thoughts from my mind down onto this computer screen. Why am I at a loss for words? The reason is that the beliefs in my mind are so powerful and so real that just words can not reflect the importance and resilience that I see every day. Words can not illuminate the power and excitement I see and feel every waking moment. Last but not least, simple words can only try to describe the vision I see for our future.

Well the days have come and gone. I am an old old man of 82 happy years. Chris is an aged but beautiful lady of 78. We have lived a good life, shared many memories. Those of you who do not know us will learn a little about us today.
We live in Bacolod, Philippines half the year and in Knoxville Tennessee the other half. We still have the juice to travel the globe.
We have 3 beautiful children, 8 grand children, 17 great great grand children, and 1 great great great grand son.
We are more madly in love today that way back when we didn’t even know each other but we thought we did.
We still run a multi-national financial education center to this day.
We employ 1,400 full time traders with a staff of 3,200 in 16 countries.
Our last photo op with the Presidents of The U.S. and The Philippines was on the cover of Time magazine.
Would you like to know how we got to where we are? well read on…
It all started when I lived in Las Vegas, Nevada. oooh the sound of the slot machines! the sparkle in the eyes of the greedy! It was so tempting to empty my wallets in search of the all mighty dollar. The year was 2000 and this was my year to win a jackpot. I studied hard. i learned all the rules of blackjack, Baccarat, and Roulette.
Well it came time to place my bet. I was so excited! I strolled over to the Roulette table and waited. I was waiting for my chance…the right opportunity. My mind was made up and today I felt like a million bucks. So I waited….clink clink clink… the ball hit red. I waited….clink…clink…clink. the ball hit red again. “Come on baby! Hot red just one more time.”  I thought. clink…clink…clink…. RED!
Just as fast as I could I place a $10 bet on black, I did. I mean, I really thought about it and planned it and the odds of Roulette hitting the same number 4 or 5 times in a row were astronomical. (this is before i really understood basic math). Red hit again. I doubled my Bet. Red. I doubled again. Red. The red hit 16 times in a row and i was so sick I almost hurled. I lost about $300 because I ran out of money that day. I learned a huge lesson about life and forgot about gambling for the most part.
Some say trading and investing is nothing more than gambling. I say Hampoop! You don’t know what you are talking about. You ask those same people is the huge and fabulous Casinos are gambling? They will always say no. But why? What is the difference between a gambler and the casino?
The casino has to take your bet. So you, as the gambler, should be in control right? Wrong. The casinos gamble million of dollars every day because they can not lose. They do this because they have an edge.
Trading without an edge IS in fact gambling. But trading with an edge is taking charge of ones future. Trading with an edge will take you to places no one will see. Trading is a business. The hardest business to profit from but the one that I feel most happy about. It gives Chris and me the hopethat our future will be secure, the hope that many people do not have.
This was the beginning.
As I tell my wife… You will understand more later. I promise you.
